wigmaker review

Clearly inspired by Universal Paperclips -- it even has a paperclip joke in late-game text. UP is so great that this earns Wigmaker my goodwill, and this is indeed fun on its own merits, but it does suffer from the comparison. It's got very different mechanics, and they are solid enough, but feel much less polished and balanced -- many elements are locked behind time gates rather than resource gates, and you spend much of the game struggling to catch up with an order backlog or building up enormous backstock while waiting for upgrades to pump up demand. Irrelevant gameplay elements persist in the interface after late-game upgrades shift your context and goals. There are occasional events which hard-pause the game until you address them. Endgame feels a bit padded and the ending was underwhelming. These would have been more frustrating if the game was longer or less generally good, but on balance, this feels solid but not a classic. Worth a play once you've enjoyed all the greats.
