Hey! Here's another minor patch with mostly QoL improvements:

*   The keys Z or X on the keyboard can now also be used to click – your wrists will thank you!
*   Added a graphical effect around the screen when there are dolls to collect. This can be disabled in the "Graphics" options tab.
*   Increased camera scrolling speed when dragging cats near edges.
*   Increased costs of Repulsocat and Attractocat shrines/upgrades to bring them more in line with the expected income at the point of the game.
*   Dolls do not spawn under the menu UI anymore.
*   Dolls do not spawn exactly on top of cats anymore (but can still spawn near them).

An update has just gone out with a few different changes, mostly focusing on the way that fields & buildings scale with Ranks in order to make for some more interesting gameplay, improve technical performance and scalability, and make the math significantly easier to follow. There are also a few little QoL additions and some bug fixes.

I've been mostly focused on full-game content, but in doing so, I noticed a few issues with the way that Rank scaling works which lead to a few different pain points in the later game, especially as farms get really large and your progress into the later ranks. This resulted in two changes to the way Ranks work:

## Rank Math Changes

Firstly, the more impactful change: Rank scaling was previously built to be 2.5^Rank increases, but it is being shifted to 2^Rank instead.

Using 2.5^Rank leads to increasing decimal places each rank (2.5, 6.25, 15.625, 39.0625) which is both a technical pain point but also hard to think about and hard to display to the player: UI elements would end up needing to show another decimal point with every rank in order to maintain accuracy. By using a whole number (2, 4, 6, 8, 16, 32), the UI get's a lot clearer and it's much easier to think in terms of "doubling" and "quadrupling" things instead of trying to think in terms of powers of 2.5.

Also, from a gameplay perspective, there's nothing else that really works off of factors of 2.5… Some recipes work in factors of 2 where they may need twice as many of their input producers, and I think lining these up will make for much more interesting layout options and solutions.

## Rank Productivity Changes

One other thing that comes up pretty quickly in the existing system is that you will soon reach crazy "production times" within a few ranks, such that fields/buildings will produce multiple times within a single second or even a single game tick.

This leads to progress bars needing additional states because they move too fast, and it becomes a little harder to make the progress still apparent to the user. It also means the game has to run the production logic for each of these fields/buildings _every single_ game tick, which adds up when you have a lot of them… Which would eventually lead to bottlenecks and performance issues.

This update reworks Ranks to provide a "Productivity Bonus" instead of increasing the production speed of the plot. This means that when you Rank Up a plot, instead of increasing the base _run time_ of the plot, it will instead double how many products are produced each time the plot runs. _(For buildings, this will of course **consume** twice as many products as well)_

In other words, a Rank A Level 20 field and Rank B Level 20 field will both run a production cycle in the same amount of time, but the Rank B field will produce twice as many crops each time a cycle completes.

To be clear, while the above 2^Rank scaling changes impact the production rates, _this_ change doesn't impact how many items are produced _per second_, it just causes the items to be made in larger and less frequent batches. And that reduced frequency will mean far less work for your CPU to have to do every game tick, especially when you have a ton of Rank M plots running ;)

To complement this change, the Plot window will also now show "Speed Bonus" and "Productivity" values at the top to make the scaling a bit more clear. The "Speed Bonus" will show it's total production speed increase as a percentage of the base speed, and the "Productivity" will show how many "extra" runs the field/recipe is producing each cycle. And of course, hovering over upgrades will show you how they will affect those values.

## Impact of these changes

The scaling changes do unfortunately mean that players with existing saves with Rank B+ plots will see a decrease in their production rates. Since the Rank scaling also impacts maximum storage values, some plots may start out overfull until they are emptied/consumed over time.

I do try to avoid making larger scale changes like this to content that has been released, because I don't want to impact current builds/players and what they have already built, but I think this is an important change for the game's future and wanted to get it out sooner before it impacts more people and more builds.

There's also a slight reduction in the scaling of some of the later Rank compost costs to try to allow a bit more growth for those who are really pushing the limits.

# I’m back!

It's been a while since my last dev diary, but I've been hard at work on Cauldron. I’ll try to post these more frequently as I continue making updates!

# Steam Next fest summary

A huge thank you to the thousands of new players that played Cauldron during the Steam Next Fest! It's been great to see all the feedback and positive comments in the Steam Community Hub and on Discord. I've been sifting through every comment and suggestion, and doing my best to get all of your great ideas into the game!

# Recent demo update

Cauldron has had a lot of updates in the past couple weeks. Based on your feedback I’ve made some major changes to the skill trees for a bunch of heroes to give them more depth and uniqueness! For anyone playing an old save, you'll just need to refund that hero's skill tree to see their new upgrades.

*   **Ticktock: Magic Attack** - Ticktock's basic attack applies +1 stack of a random magical status effect
*   **Burny: Weak Spot** - Burny's Skill and Special attacks deal +1 damage for every stack of negative status effects his target has
*   **Sparky: Gotta Go Fast** - Gain +10% more action speed, but at the cost of -3 hp (to a minimum of 1 hp).
*   **Plague: Toxic Fumes** - Plague gives off toxic fumes whenever he attacks, giving all enemies a stack of poison
*   **Chill: Chill, Bro** - Enemies who attack Chill receive 1 stack of freeze (upgradable)
*   **Chop: Reckless** - Chop opens himself up to being attacked and returns +20% of the attack damage to his attacker, as well as +1 stack of bleed, but loses 1 Speed, 1 Armor, and 5% Dodge.
*   **Thor: Healing Feathers** - If Thor hasn't used his Skill or Special abilities yet, he heals the entire party for 1 hp after attacking
*   **Cleanse: Status Reflect** - When Cleanse uses her Skill or Special, cleansed status effects are given to random enemies
*   **Buffy: Pep Talk** - If an ally falls in battle, Buffy will apply Attack Buff to the rest of the team
*   **Debuffette: Rejuvenate** - Remove 1 additional stack of every negative status effect at the end of your turn
*   **Debuffette: Discourage** - Enemies who attack Debuffette receive Attack Down status

Go test them out, **the demo is updated with these changes!** Side note: Hero Preset Builds are now toggles that should update automatically whenever you gain more talent points!

Speaking of balancing, I also updated some of the enemy types. Instead of the elemental versions of each enemy essentially having the same base stats, I made the following changes. (Thanks to Hommnom for the suggestion!)

*   **Shock** enemies have double action speed, but half hp
*   **Freeze** enemies have double hp, but half action speed
*   **Burn** enemies have double attack, but 66% hp and 66% action speed
*   **Poison** enemies have double armor (and a little extra) and +50% hp, but half attack and 66% action speed

*   Energy system reworked! Now idle 36+ hours at a time and regain the time by tapping your Ninja!
*   Unlock a new Medal upgrade that makes your Ninja catch all regular Fireflies while the Energy is active!

*   Ascension Skill tree extended
*   New Achievements
*   New Firefly type
*   Multi-level Blessing nodes are now scattered around the Ascension Tree, your Blessing levels have been distributed amongst them

**Note:** The 2 new Legendary heroes have not yet been implemented and a couple of icons are missing

New Mythic mechanic: Imbuement. Allows you to expand the functionality of your Mythic items by adding up to 2 new powers (Imbuements) to them. First, you select a specific pool of Imbuements to choose from, then the resulting power is selected from that pool at random.

Also includes:
- 4 new Mythics and 2 new slots (wrist and belt), 2 items each.
- Mythic items amount cap increased to 20 (was 15).
- Item sets received new, powerful bonuses when completed, and had some of the other bonuses rehashed.

Several bug and stability fixes included.

IdleOn — The Idle MMO

Greetings Universe Architects,

2024 has flown by. We skipped December’s dev diary and closed out the year with the release of _Beyond E27: Galactic Battle_ and _Explore: Math – Beautiful Complexity_. Starting off in 2025, we released our first Explore Event of the year with _Explore: Artificial Intelligence – Mind Machines_ and announced the newly released _Beyond E28: Clusterstruck_. Outside of content, we’ve also made some quality of life improvements and introduced the ability for players to receive push notifications on Android and iOS.

For this dev diary, we’ll be focusing on a project we previously teased during our [January 2025 chillstream](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-7eV88JnZk&ab_channel=ComputerLunch). There’s been a lot of discussion around the screenshot we shared (we loved reading everyone’s thoughts on what it might be), and we’re excited to reveal the work we’ve been doing behind the scenes. Below is an updated screenshot from what we shared in the stream. A lot of information is being revealed, so take a close look as we move through the dev diary and break down some of the key elements.

# Big Changes to the Reality Engine

Following the Ancient Civilization update in August last year, the team embarked on a new ambitious adventure to overhaul the Primary Simulation and the Reality Engine in the upcoming **Reality Reboot** expansion. Unlike previous Metabit tuning updates, we are now rebuilding the game functionally from the ground up. The team is doing some major refactoring, and we are holding spirited discussions and tests to ensure the updates will be as fun as possible.

# A New Player has Entered

To create the most satisfying experience possible for our players we enlisted an exciting new collaborator for the project: Chrysto, founder of Octocube Games and renowned creator of [CIFI](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.OctocubeGamesCompany.CIFI) and [ISEPS](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AppSociety.ISEPS). He is a big fan of idle games and loves diving into the math behind upgrade systems.

In December of last year, Chrysto met with us at our Brooklyn, New York office. We discussed in great detail the goals we wanted to achieve in rebalancing the Primary Simulation and crafting an exciting progression path through the prestige system. We are thrilled to collaborate with Chrysto to deliver new features and experiences for our players.

Reality Reboot will introduce additional upgrades, improve tuning, and streamline progression. While the core game design will not change, we want to build a longer narrative arc. With the current pace of the game, new players can reach Singularity within two weeks and many seasoned players can finish new content within a few days of release. We also want to make the late game exciting and for each update to feel like a new chapter.

To achieve this, significant updates will be introduced to the Metabit economy and the Prestige system. The early part of the Primary Simulation will remain roughly the same, but the first Prestige will no longer occur at Singularity. Instead, it will unlock once the player reaches Ideas (the brain). With the Prestige system now available earlier, players will have access to new upgrades, content, currencies, and eventually future in-game lore. Players will also be given the choice to unlock and upgrade their Reality Engine to enhance their simulation. Different players will have their own preferences: some want to reset frequently, while others prefer to do so rarely. We want to accommodate both playstyles (and everything in between).

**Spoilers Ahead.** The original setup of Ideas and Entropy influencing Metabit production caused balancing issues. To address this, we’re splitting Metabits into two new currencies: **Entrobits and Ideabits**.

Having two prestige currencies will open up more strategic gameplay and make progress feel rewarding on both tracks. Existing Metabits will be converted to Entrobits, which can be used to purchase existing upgrades. Ideabits will be introduced when players reach the Singularity and can be used to purchase new upgrades in the Reality Engine. We’re also launching the **Compiler System**, which simplifies and better communicates the process for generating prestige currencies.

We’re consolidating duplicate nodes into single, stackable upgrades while introducing new, unique upgrades that will expand the Reality Engine. Players will have a variety of upgrades to choose from, where their choices in the Reality Engine will have a unique impact on their simulation. Expect even more upgrades throughout 2025.

### **What will happen to my current progress?**

Your current progress will be carried over with a few changes. In addition to converting Metabits to Entrobits, existing Reality Engine upgrades will be carried over and unlocked with new upgrades. Some upgrades will become stackable, allowing them to level up. The Global Leaderboard will also reflect the changes in the new system, which will update your score accordingly. Our system will be designed to align each player’s progression to where they should be.

There will be an extended beta period for players to test and provide feedback as we gradually roll out to the public. Feedback will also continue to be received after the official release. Help us reboot the Primary Simulation to be bigger and better than ever.

# Roadmap

Speaking of the future, our latest roadmap highlights most of the content and features we are working on for the first half of the year. Starting with Reality Reboot, the main focus will be the Primary Simulation and Reality Engine overhaul before we move into the next phase. Civilization will make its roaring return later this year as humanity enters the Modern Ages, covering all eras from the Scientific to Atomic Ages. More Explore Events will continue to be in development with a new one currently in beta testing. The Beyond is also approaching its conclusion, as Episode 30 will be the final chapter. For fellow space lovers, don’t be too disappointed; space content will continue in a different form.

We've received a lot of love with the quality of life releases and we will continue to implement those throughout the year. The Google sign-in backup save is currently in the works, and the UI will be overhauled with the upcoming Reality Reboot rollout. Many more game improvements and features will also be released in tandem. We will be showcasing Reality Reboot at PAX East in Boston, Massachusetts from May 8-11\. Dev Diary for Mar 2025: Reality Reboot is Coming

Hello! This week's update brings Catalogue and Achievements improvements:

*   **Collection index page**
    We've added a new page at the start of your Collection tab. It has shortcuts to all individual decoration sets. You no longer have to click 10+ times just to find the page you need!
*   **'92 Collection**
    We've grouped all current decoration sets under _'92 Collection_ and moved all small houses to their respective pages.
*   **Achievements changes**
    We've changed current achievements to only count '92 Collection (eg. Unlock all house variants -> Unlock all house variants from '92 collection), this way we can keep adding new decorations without impacting anybody's progress. Once new collections are fully released, they will get their separate achievements added to the game.

With those changes out of the way we can continue adding new decoration set, with the first ones coming later this week!

- Raised base points for incursion enemies, you should be getting more points or atleast equal to pre 0.9.8103 patch.
- Sorted out most of visual decimal bug.
- Extending 2x event by another 12 hours as a compensation for low incursion points last patch.
- Pet info hover text in Pets window now shows color coded enemy tier and max levels.
- Sacrificing Transcendence text now shows what ascension you will reset to after a T-sacrifice, it was showing 0 before.
- Fixed an issue where offline festival tokens and chests were not dropping for some player when offline gains were on.
- Fixed Yuletide snow effect blocking world tier text.
- Fixed an issue where skill pages requirement for Skill trainer was showing green with not enough skill pages.

Hello!
1.034 is now live. Pretty tight focus for this one:

**Steam Cloud Saves.**
These are now live! To be _extra_ safe, a backup of all of your saves is made locally in a non-synced folder each time the game is ran, so if you plan on using this feature I recommend (after updating) playing the game on the machine with the saves you care about on first to secure that local fallback.

**Improving late game stability on Endless Mode.**
I have had a few reports from players who are seeing random spikes in their electricity use while playing (in-game, thankfully not IRL), especially on either lower spec computers or on very fast AutoMode upgrade levels. I have introduced a new setting in the advanced section of the settings menu called _‘stability mode’_. The tldr is that this will make calculations more stable/predictable by fixing them to the AutoMode level rather than calculating the speed dynamically, which was always a bit of a rogue approach. It is disabled by default in normal runs and existing (legacy) endless mode games, but can be toggled on at any time. Otherwise, it is now the default for all new ‘endless mode’ games.

### WHAT'S NEW

- Improved text rendering for better readability at lower resolutions. I've tested on 1920x1080 and 1366x768 resolutions and it's looking a lot better. Also increased the character spacing on text descriptions slightly.

- Added a fix for a bug that would prevent walls from loading properly after a wall was defeated.

- Fixed a few typos in the quest and spell descriptions.
