This has a web demo version and a "full" version currently in Early Access in Steam - monetization there is a one-time payment, extremely reasonable. There's multiple days of content in the demo, the full first island. What's currently available is grindy at times -- automation has to be unlocked, tools frequently break, and drop rates on some necessary items are extremely low -- but what's here is solid and fun. There's ever-shifting micro goals to work toward, your options quickly expand out as you bootstrap, and your hunters quickly gain skills to optimize tasks once you've broken past a wall to fight a new monster or gather in a new area. The sense of progression is satisfying. The art is also noteworthy -- it's not often in an idle game that it's a significant factor, but the character models drip with style and the monster fights are an adorable little extra.
I definitely wouldn't mind a little rebalancing (e.g. why are tarasii seeds so impossible to get when they merely give you modest amounts of the same resources you are already accumulating while grinding for them?) but the game's being actively worked on, and the update that just dropped shortly before this review pushed things in the right direction. I'll be following along.
